Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine will be sidelined for the rest of the regular season as he prepares to undergo surgery on his right hand.
The injury comes after LaVine missed Sacramento’s final three games before the All-Star break while dealing with a tendon issue in his right pinkie finger.
The procedure is expected to take place shortly after the All-Star festivities conclude, officially ending his season early as he focuses on recovery.
Despite the injury setback, LaVine put together a productive campaign for the Kings, averaging 19.2 points per game while shooting efficiently with 48 percent from the field, 39 percent from three-point range, and 88 percent from the free-throw line.
He has been a regular presence in the starting lineup, starting 37 of the 39 games he appeared in for Sacramento this season.
Looking ahead, LaVine holds a $48.9 million player option for next season, and league expectations are that he will choose to exercise that option.
Following that decision, the Kings could explore trade possibilities involving the veteran shooting guard as the franchise appears to be moving toward a broader rebuilding phase.
