Detroit Pistons All-Star Cade Cunningham has purchased a minority ownership stake in the Texas Rangers, the MLB team based in his hometown of Arlington, Texas, Shams Charania reported on Thursday.
Cunningham, 24, told ESPN he sees the move as a way to remain connected to his community while diversifying his investments.
Cunningham has earned $92 million over his NBA career and is averaging 25.3 points, 9.6 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game this season while leading the Pistons (40-13) to the top of the Eastern Conference.
The Texas Rangers, winners of the 2023 World Series, have seven division titles and three American League pennants, highlighting a competitive franchise with a strong local following. Cunningham’s involvement adds a notable NBA connection to the team’s ownership group.
Investing in the Rangers also aligns with a growing trend of NBA stars entering sports ownership, creating cross-league partnerships and opportunities for influence beyond basketball.
