Jayson Tatum took a major step in his recovery Monday by fully participating in his first five-on-five scrimmage since suffering an Achilles rupture last year.
The session included Celtics roster players, two-way players, and G League call-ups.
“Everyone I spoke to with knowledge of Monday’s practice said Tatum looked great,” ESPN’s Shams Charania said on NBA Today.
After the workout, Tatum said he was “feeling good,” but emphasized that the process is still ongoing.
“Today is 39 weeks [since the Achilles tear] so it’s been a long journey,” Tatum told reporters Tuesday. “And it’s just the progression of rehab, [this was] the next step. Doesn’t mean that I’m coming back or I’m not. We’re just following the plan. It was just another step.”
Despite the encouraging progress, Tatum has not yet been cleared to return, as additional evaluations remain.
“At the end of all this there’s going to be about a dozen people gathering in a room and deciding and determining whether Jayson Tatum is one hundred percent cleared medically and one percent cleared on a mental level,” Charania added.
