The Memphis Grizzlies are drawing significant interest from several teams regarding Ja Morant and are considered “wide open for business” when it comes to discussing their franchise point guard, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
At the same time, Charania notes that any serious movement on a Morant trade will probably be delayed until there is more clarity surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s situation.
This is particularly relevant for clubs like the Miami Heat, who are said to have interest in both players.
Miami is expected to place a potential pursuit of the Bucks superstar ahead of everything else, which would leave Morant as a secondary option for now.
Charania also pointed out that Morant’s contract situation works in Memphis’ favor.
With two full seasons remaining after this year, the Grizzlies have stronger leverage to demand substantial return value compared to what the Atlanta Hawks managed to receive for Trae Young, who holds a player option next season.
Morant is currently sidelined with an elbow sprain and is projected to be out for at least two more weeks, which means he will remain unavailable through the trade deadline.
The 26-year-old two-time All-Star is averaging 19.5 points and 8.1 assists per game this season.
