As the Memphis Grizzlies made it known they were open to hearing trade proposals for Ja Morant, the Miami Heat quickly surfaced as the guard’s preferred landing spot.
That interest, however, comes with a major caveat.
Miami is unlikely to pursue Morant as long as there remains a realistic chance to land Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has been connected to the Heat dating back to 2020, prior to signing his first supermax deal with the Bucks.
Morant is currently sidelined with an elbow sprain after recently missing six games because of a calf issue. Despite his interest in Miami, the Heat’s focus appears to be elsewhere for now.
“He would love, I think, to go to the Miami Heat, but the Miami Heat are not even going to entertain that when there’s a possibility of trading for Giannis,” Brian Windhorst said on Get Up.
On the court this season, Morant has averaged 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists across 20 appearances.
Windhorst added that the unresolved nature of Antetokounmpo’s future could delay any clarity on Morant’s situation with Memphis, potentially pushing a resolution into the offseason rather than before the trade deadline.
