The New Orleans Pelicans have made it clear that moving Trey Murphy III or Herb Jones would require an enormous return. In trade discussions, the team has set the bar at a “Desmond Bane-like” package for either player.

That benchmark comes from the deal that sent Bane to the Orlando Magic, in which the Memphis Grizzlies received four future first-round picks along with matching salary.

By establishing that kind of price tag, the Pelicans are effectively signaling that they have no real desire to part with Murphy or Jones unless another team comes in with an overwhelming offer.

New Orleans has also communicated to opposing teams that it has no plans to trade Zion Williamson, rookie Derik Queen, or Jeremiah Fears ahead of the deadline.
