The Utah Jazz believe they’re in a strong position to retain center Walker Kessler when he reaches free agency this summer, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Although Kessler is done for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, Utah remains optimistic about bringing him back.

The player is set to become a restricted free agent, giving the Jazz the ability to match any outside offer. That could be important, as interest around the league is expected.

The Washington Wizards are reportedly preparing to pursue Kessler with the idea of pairing him in the frontcourt alongside Alex Sarr.

The Indiana Pacers have also previously registered interest in the big man.

Before his injury, the 24-year-old was enjoying a productive season, averaging 14.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, numbers that have only added to his appeal heading into the offseason.
