Even after the Los Angeles Clippers publicly stated in early December that they were “parting ways” with Chris Paul, the veteran guard remains in a holding pattern as the organization continues to search for a trade that would allow it to avoid waiving his fully guaranteed contract.

Until that happens, Paul’s future is unresolved and his season remains on pause.

Speaking recently on Good Sports with Kevin Hart & Kenan Thompson, Paul shared that he’s staying ready while waiting for clarity, expressing hope that an opportunity will materialize in a situation better suited for the remainder of the season.

“I’m working out and training every day,” he said. “In all honesty, with the way all that stuff went down and all that, I think for me, I just love this game so much that I don’t want it to end like that.”

Paul acknowledged that the unexpected downtime has had its positives, particularly allowing him to be more present with his family, but emphasized that retirement on these terms isn’t something he’s comfortable accepting.

“I’ve enjoyed the time (off), for sure. I get a chance to go to my kids’ games,” he added. “But I don’t know yet (where I’ll end up).”

Paul has played 21 seasons for 7 teams, including the Clippers and Hornets. He has averaged 16.8 points, 9.2 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 1,370 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 12 All-Star games, and has won the Rookie of the Year award.
