Golden State will be without forward Gui Santos for Saturday’s matchup against Charlotte Hornets after he suffered a left ankle sprain early in Thursday’s victory over the New York Knicks, according to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area.
With Santos having carved out a steady role in the rotation recently, the team is preparing for the possibility that the absence could stretch beyond just one game.
After Friday’s practice, head coach Steve Kerr emphasized how much Santos has meant to the Warriors’ recent lineups, particularly in terms of effort and physical presence.
“It’s a big loss,” Kerr said. “The energy, the offensive rebounding but also the size. When we go to him and Gary [Gary Payton II] we’re generally playing him at the four next to Draymond [Draymond Green] at the five.
“He’s a rebounder, especially on the offensive side, and a great screener. But the size that he brings will be missed.”
Santos has played 3 seasons for the Warriors. He has averaged 3.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in 112 regular-season games.
