The Toronto Raptors are actively gauging trade options for RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley as the franchise seeks to accelerate its rebuild under incoming governor Edward Rogers, ESPN reports. Sources indicate the front office has been in contact with multiple teams to assess potential deals, signaling urgency after three consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance.
Barrett, 25, is in the third year of his four-year, $107 million contract, averaging 19.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists over 30.3 minutes per game. Quickley, also 25, is in the second year of a five-year, $162 million deal and contributes 16.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per contest while starting all 40 games this season.
League sources tell ESPN the Raptors are interested in acquiring high-profile talent, including Anthony Davis from the Mavericks and Ja Morant from the Grizzlies. Toronto’s willingness to trade long-term contracts could help offset the financial burden for teams taking on star salaries, a factor that might remove obstacles to completing blockbuster trades.
Toronto’s financial position offers flexibility despite luxury tax considerations. The team is roughly $1 million into the tax, but owns all its first- and second-round picks for the next seven years, providing significant assets to facilitate trades. Executives note that the Raptors’ ability to move long-term deals could appeal to franchises hesitant to absorb extended contracts.
From a basketball standpoint, Barrett and Quickley are central contributors but not untouchable. Barrett has been efficient this season, shooting 49.6 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from three, while Quickley’s 34.7 percent three-point shooting complements his playmaking duties. Both players offer value that could be leveraged to acquire top-tier talent without jeopardizing team depth.
The Raptors currently hold a 25–17 record, fourth in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks by 4.5 games. Their position reinforces the urgency to pursue roster upgrades capable of pushing the team deeper into the playoff picture.
