The Miami Heat squandered a 20-point advantage before recovering to overcome the Phoenix Suns 127-121 on Tuesday night.
Norman Powell hit a three-pointer with 48 seconds left to put Miami ahead for good, and Andrew Wiggins made a pair of free throws to seal the game after Suns’ Dillon Brooks was called for a flagrant foul with 11.5 seconds remaining.
Powell added 27 points, while Tyler Herro scored 23, snapping a three-game slide.
Meanwhile, Heat bigman Bam Adebayo dropped 29 points, and pushed his career total to 9,461 points, two more than Alonzo Mourning for second on Miami’s list, with Dwayne Wade’s 21,556 points in the franchise record.
Brooks and Grayson Allen led the Suns with 25 points each, while Devin Booker finished with 24 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, and Mark Williams contributed 18 and 14 boards.
Phoenix was trying to overcome a 20-point deficit for the second time this season after being trailed by 20 to the Kings on opening night, but they are now 0-11 in games in which they were trailed by at least 20.
Miami led by 20 as Herro made a three-pointer on the opening possession of the second half, and the lead was still 17 when Booker was called for an offensive foul with 9:17 left in the third quarter.
The Suns led by as many as six in the final minutes before Adebayo and Powell rallied their comeback.
Both teams will play on Thursday, as the Suns will visit Detroit, while the Heat host the Celtics.
