LeBron James scored 22 points in Monday night’s 124-112 loss to the Sacramento Kings, reflecting on the team’s struggles from three-point range.
He emphasized that the Lakers executed their game plan but couldn’t convert on open opportunities.
“Defensively, I think we play solid defense. They made a bunch of threes. We didn’t make many. We had our game plan. We executed our game plan. Tonight was just one of those cases where you didn’t make shots,” James said.
James also highlighted Malik Monk’s impact off the bench for Sacramento.
“Malik, that’s what he does. He’s a spark off the bench at any given moment and he had a heck of a game tonight,” he said.
The Lakers briefly closed within seven points in the fourth quarter but couldn’t stop Sacramento’s hot shooting.
“Any shot that they make, especially from three, is always going to feel like a back breaker, especially late in a game like that,” James said.
James discussed Luka Doncic’s comfort within the Lakers’ offense this season.
“I think it’s more important just him finding comfort and being in LA,” he said. “Being able to start this full year, getting more comfortable with what we want to run offensively and with the city.”
He acknowledged the team’s resilience despite injuries.
“We have no choice but to push through. We’re dealing with a lot of injuries right now. Not only guys not in uniform, but even guys that are in uniform,” James said. “We’re just trying to weather the storm and play the game.”
James also reflected on a personal milestone of playing in the city where he started his NBA career 23 years ago, noting the emotional impact of a career recognition.
“Super surreal, super humbled, blessed. Walked in here and saw it for the first time. It was an emotional moment,” he said. “Just think about the journey, from the beginning to where we are now. It’s been a heck of a journey, and I’m super grateful.”
Los Angeles will host the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, while Sacramento faces the New York Knicks on Wednesday.
