Sacramento Kings leaned on efficient offense and sustained energy Monday night, pulling away for a 124-112 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at Golden 1 Center.
DeMar DeRozan finished with 32 points and six assists, controlling the game from the midrange as Sacramento improved to 10-30 and secured its second straight victory.
Malik Monk delivered a major lift off the bench, knocking down seven 3-pointers and scoring 26 points to stretch the floor and punish late defensive breakdowns.
Sacramento also received a steady contribution from Russell Westbrook, who posted 22 points and seven assists against his former team while pushing the tempo during key runs.
The Kings erased an eight-point first-quarter deficit and surged ahead 57-41 late in the second period after Monk buried his fifth 3-pointer of the half.
Luka Doncic kept the Lakers within reach, pouring in 42 points with seven rebounds and eight assists in his seventh 40-point performance of the season.
Los Angeles leaned heavily on its stars early, with Doncic and LeBron James combining for 38 of the team’s 54 first-half points.
James finished with 22 points on 8-for-17 shooting, but missed all five attempts from beyond the arc as the Lakers struggled to match Sacramento’s perimeter efficiency.
The home side seized control coming out of halftime, opening the third quarter with a 19-6 run that built a 20-point cushion and shifted the game decisively.
Los Angeles trailed throughout the second half, though it briefly closed to 102-95 early in the fourth quarter before Monk answered with another 3-pointer to restore separation.
Deandre Ayton scored 13 points to reach 7,000 for his career, while Jaxson Hayes added 12 points off the bench.
Sacramento shot 59 percent from the field and 65 percent from three-point range, a decisive advantage that neutralized the Lakers’ scoring punch.
The Lakers will return home to face Atlanta on Tuesday, while the Kings remain in Sacramento to host New York on Wednesday.
