Olympiacos Piraeus leaned on a dominant second half and a flawless shooting display from Sasha Vezenkov to defeat FC Bayern Munich 95-80 on Friday night in Round 21 of the EuroLeague.
Played at Peace and Friendship Stadium, the game marked Olympiacos’ first home appearance of 2026 and extended its home winning streak against Bayern to nine consecutive games.
Vezenkov endured a quiet start, missing his first two attempts as the visitors briefly edged ahead 9-8 midway through the opening quarter. From that moment on, the forward did not miss again from the field.
The Bulgarian international converted his next 10 field-goal attempts and finished with a team-high 25 points. He scored efficiently inside and out, anchoring an offense that surged when it mattered most.
Bayern arrived in Piraeus with momentum after two straight wins under new head coach Svetislav Pesic. That confidence showed early, as the German side scored 47 first-half points and trailed by only two at halftime.
Vezenkov had 14 points at the break, then took full control in the third quarter. He poured in seven points in a three-minute span, helping Olympiacos open a 65-54 cushion and shift the game’s momentum.
The decisive stretch came in the third period, when the hosts tightened defensively and held Bayern to just 14 points. Olympiacos entered the fourth quarter up 70-61 and never relinquished control.
Bayern mounted one final push, trimming the deficit to 85-78 with 2:22 remaining after a 9-2 run. Vezenkov re-entered immediately and capped a 10-2 closing stretch with a basket off a pass from Kostas Papanikolaou to seal the outcome.
Olympiacos’ defensive pressure proved decisive. The hosts forced 21 turnovers, recorded 10 steals, and turned those stops into transition baskets.
Rebounding also tilted the floor, with the Reds winning the battle 35-23 and collecting 14 offensive boards. Those extra possessions led to 29 second-chance points.
Ball movement remained a constant, as the Greek side finished with 28 assists.
For Bayern, Andreas Obst led the scoring with 21 points, while Isiaha Mike and David McCormack added 13 each in defeat.
The win lifted Olympiacos to 12-8 and eighth place in the standings. Bayern dropped to 7-14 following another difficult road outing.
Olympiacos travels to face Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade next Wednesday, while Bayern hosts Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens on Thursday.
