Rockets head coach Ime Udoka highlighted Houston’s improved shot selection in Monday’s 100-97 win over Phoenix. “Took our time and found guys wide open… didn’t force shots,” he said.

Udoka credited the team’s defensive adjustments for limiting Phoenix’s fast break points. “They had 23 fast break points in the first half and none in the second… only giving up four for 21 threes,” he noted.

The coach detailed the final play that set up Kevin Durant’s game-winner. “We just get him open to a spot… he walked into a shot and said it felt good as soon as he let it go,” Udoka explained. He added that situational timing was key: “I would say it might be a little tougher at four seconds… but he would have made the pass and had an open look either way.”

Udoka praised Jabari Smith Jr.’s defensive versatility while Alperen Sengun is sidelined. “He took on a bunch of different matchups tonight… it gives us that much more versatility and depth on defense,” he said.

Addressing the team’s early struggles, Udoka noted the slow start: “Our energy wasn’t great to come out… we gave up 10 for 21 in the first half from three.” He emphasized the halftime adjustments that fueled the comeback: “18-point third quarter, 19-point fourth quarter… shows we took it to heart and understood what was going to win us a game.”

The coach also underlined Durant’s impact in late-game situations. “He’s done it his whole career… you’re going to get a quality shot or he’s going to get a quality shot for somebody else,” Udoka said.

Houston’s victory was fueled by balanced contributions. Amen Thompson added 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Jabari Smith Jr. scored 17 with seven boards. Durant finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists, including the decisive 27-foot three-pointer with 1.1 seconds left.

The win snapped Phoenix’s two-game streak and gave Houston its 22nd victory of the season. Udoka praised the team’s collective execution, stating, “Whether you make or miss a shot, you can live with that, but doing the right thing… that was different than the first half.”

The Rockets travel to Portland for back-to-back road games, while the Suns head to Memphis for Wednesday’s matchup. Udoka emphasized the team’s focus moving forward: executing offensively, staying disciplined defensively, and trusting their stars in clutch moments.
