There was plenty of discussion before draft night about what direction Philadelphia should go with the third overall pick, but VJ Edgecombe’s early play is quickly quieting that conversation, as Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer notes.
The rookie guard has already shown that his game goes well beyond the flashy moments people remember from his time at Baylor, revealing a more complete and reliable skill set.
From the coaching staff’s point of view, his biggest strength has been how calm and controlled he looks on the floor.
Nick Nurse has emphasized that Edgecombe carries himself with an uncommon steadiness for a first-year player, rarely looking rushed or overwhelmed.
“He’s been awesome,” Nurse said. “I think just, again, the composure. I think that he has it just so steady out there. He plays like a 10-year vet with his composure.
“He just kind of keeps making plays. He does a little bit of everything, which is great.”
