Minnesota Timberwolves delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Sunday night, rolling past the Washington Wizards 141-115 at Capital One Arena.
Anthony Edwards scored 35 points to lead Minnesota, which completed a season sweep of Washington and continued its push near the top of the Western Conference standings.
The Timberwolves improved to 23-13 by dominating the paint, outscoring the Wizards 76-48 inside while shooting 56 percent from the field.
Julius Randle added 22 points, and Rudy Gobert finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds for his 15th double-double of the season.
Minnesota went 3-1 on its road trip and won on consecutive days for the third time this season, showing consistent energy on both ends.
Washington fell to 9-25 despite entering the night having won four of its previous five games, leaving the club with the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference.
CJ McCollum led the Wizards with 20 points, but the home team struggled to match Minnesota’s physicality and pace.
The Timberwolves set the tone early behind Edwards, who scored 16 points in the first quarter, his highest opening-period total of the season.
Minnesota built a 38-28 lead after one and never trailed after the first five minutes, controlling the game with pressure defense and quick scoring bursts.
Washington committed nine turnovers in the first half and forced only one, allowing Minnesota to score 12 points off giveaways and take a 73-58 halftime lead.
That trend continued after the break as the Timberwolves finished with a 26-13 edge in points off turnovers.
Edwards erupted again in the third quarter, scoring 18 points as Minnesota stretched the margin to 108-79 and effectively ended the contest.
The Timberwolves’ largest lead reached 37, and Edwards did not play in the fourth quarter while still adding six rebounds and four steals.
Minnesota recorded its third game of the season with at least 140 points, while Washington allowed 140 or more for the fourth time.
The Wizards never closed the gap to fewer than 13 points after halftime and lacked consistent interior scoring against Gobert’s rim protection.
Washington also played without forward Kyshawn George, its third-leading scorer, who missed his fifth straight game with a left hip flexor strain.
Minnesota returns home Tuesday night to face Miami, while Washington concludes its homestand Tuesday against Orlando.
