Joel Embiid said he is “getting back to myself” after the Philadelphia 76ers’ 123-108 win over the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Thursday.
“Tonight is a perfect example different than Memphis. I just made plays for each other…taking what the defense gives me,” Embiid explained, highlighting his focus on teamwork over individual stats.
The 76ers center praised the collective effort. “We played together collectively. It’s a good win, and we just have to keep building on it,” he said, referencing upcoming matchups against strong Eastern Conference teams like the New York Knicks.
Embiid also addressed his synergy with Tyrese Maxey. “We’ve always had a good connection in the two-man game…my first job is to make the game easy for all these guys,” he said, emphasizing his role in facilitating offense while drawing defensive attention.
On feeling like himself physically and mentally, Embiid added, “Two years ago, I felt like I could score 40 or 50 every single night. I’m starting to get there. I can be more aggressive but also smarter…making sure everybody else is involved.”
The 76ers star reflected on a highlight attempt in the game. “At first I was going to lay it up, and then I felt it coming…might as well dunk it. I missed it, but it’s a good sign. Zero dunks on the year, so to get that first one, I’ve got to make it look exciting,” he said.
Philadelphia’s balanced attack included Tyrese Maxey’s 34 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds, with rookie VJ Edgecombe adding 23, and Embiid contributing 22 points. Dallas’ top performers were Max Christie with 18 points, Anthony Davis with 13, and Cooper Flagg with 12.
Embiid emphasized defensive impact as well, noting his focus on “moving my feet, blocking shots, and being that defensive presence,” signaling his return to full form on both ends of the court.
The Sixers shot 53% overall and 36% from three-point range, while Dallas finished at 38% from the field and 21% from long distance. Embiid’s remarks underline a dual focus on scoring and creating opportunities for teammates as Philadelphia looks to build momentum.
Philadelphia will face the New York Knicks in their next road game, while Dallas hosts Houston on Saturday.
