San Antonio Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama underwent an MRI on Thursday that confirmed there was no ligament damage in his hyperextended left knee, according to ESPN’s Michael C. Wright.
The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s win over New York.
While he will miss Friday’s game in Indianapolis after not traveling with the team, he could return soon, as he’s expected to be listed as questionable for Saturday’s matchup against Portland.
Wembanyama is considered day-to-day and hopes to return within the next week, per Jared Weiss of The Athletic. Friday will mark his 13th missed game of the season after previously missing time with a calf strain.
Speaking to Maxime Aubin of L’Équipe, Wembanyama said the league’s 65-game rule is something he’s aware of, but trusts the Spurs’ medical staff to manage his recovery properly.
San Antonio will also be without Devin Vassell on Friday due to a left adductor strain, and he’s expected to miss multiple games, according to Tom Orsborn of The San Antonio Express-News.
