After showing some encouraging signs during recent road losses in Boston and New York, the Heat took a step backward with a lopsided home loss to Toronto, leaving head coach Erik Spoelstra searching for answers.
Spoelstra admitted the result was unexpected, saying he believed the team was prepared and coming off performances that showed real effort and competitiveness.
Still, the outcome didn’t match what he anticipated, and he acknowledged that the group is still trying to understand why.
Miami’s recent slide has been steep. After starting December at 13–7 with one of the league’s better defenses, the Heat have gone 2–8 this month, slipping back to .500 while struggling on both ends of the floor.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. said accountability has to begin on an individual level.
“I think it all starts individually,” he said, adding that every player needs to look inward and find more to give.
He admitted the stretch has been difficult but stressed his belief in the locker room, noting that this period will help define who the team really is moving forward.
