Despite the San Antonio Spurs falling short in the NBA Cup championship against the New York Knicks, the league’s analysts have commended Victor Wembanyama for leading his team to the stage while facing struggles off the court.

In speaking of post-interview, the 7-foot-4 spoke emotionally as he spoke about the recent passing of his grandmother, Marie Christine.

Aside from that tragedy, the French big man earned praise after playing with heart all season, seeing a bright future for San Antonio.

Three-time champion Danny Green said that Wemby would like to be the face of the league, given his efforts throughout the entire season.

“[Wemby] wants to be the face of the league… He could be, when all’s said and done, the greatest big of all-time if he continues on this route,” Green said.

The Spurs are currently the fourth seed in the Western Conference this season, a testament to their maturity over the years, following a slump in previous seasons.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Perkins also observed what they have proven is more than enough, although they lost in their attempt to capture the NBA Cup title.

“Although they lost, they put the world on notice. They delivered in good fashion, enough to say that the Spurs are legit title contenders…if they play the way that they played tonight and have been playing all season, they can definitely have a shot at winning the NBA championship right now,” Perkins said.

It has been a lot for Wemby tonight, but the Spurs look forward to bouncing back against the Washington Wizards on Thursday.
