Bam Adebayo identified Miami’s defensive struggles as the key issue in Monday’s 106-96 loss to Toronto. “It’s that defensive end I’m really worried about… even if we score 96, we can still win,” Adebayo said.

He emphasized the importance of collective effort and communication on defense. “Everybody has to be on the same page… we’ve got to make free throws and execute together,” he added.

Adebayo addressed the scary first-quarter injury to Nikola Jovic, noting the positive attitude of the rookie despite the fall. “I was just impressed that he actually tried to dunk it… once you see guys start waving to the trainers, you worry, but he’s a warrior.
I always say he got that that that tough Serbian blood in him,” he said.

The veteran center also discussed Miami’s offensive struggles over recent matchups against strong defensive teams. “I really think we overthink our threes… sometimes we drive into traffic, but a lot of this can get figured out watching film and getting back to the basics,” Adebayo explained.

Miami was unable to sustain offensive momentum, allowing Toronto to erase a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter with a decisive 17-2 run. Brandon Ingram led the Raptors with 28 points, including five three-pointers, while Scottie Barnes recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Adebayo and Norman Powell each scored 20 points for Miami, but the Heat shot just 29 percent from three-point range. Davion Mitchell added 12 points, and the team was held under 100 points for the first time this season.

The loss extended Miami’s losing streak to five games, a stretch Adebayo attributed to the need for defensive cohesion and discipline. “It’s got to be a collective thing… we’ve got to figure out who we are on defense and stick to it every night,” he said.

Toronto improved to 16-11, relying on ball movement and perimeter shooting, while Miami drops to 14-12 and looks to regroup offensively. The Heat travel to Brooklyn on Thursday, while the Raptors continue their road trip in Milwaukee.
