Atlanta Hawks big man Kristaps Porzingis is expected to be sidelined for at least the next two weeks as he undergoes additional evaluation related to an ongoing illness that has frequently kept him off the court.

The condition has already caused Porzingis to miss seven of Atlanta’s past eight games, prompting the team to take a cautious approach.

Both the Hawks and the player are prioritizing his long-term health rather than pushing for a quick return. The extended absence reflects a broader effort to better understand and manage a medical issue that has followed him for some time.

During the offseason, Porzingis was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, commonly known as POTS.

The condition affects the body’s ability to regulate heart rate and blood flow, often causing a significant spike in heart rate when standing or sitting upright.

Symptoms can include fatigue, dizziness, headaches, nausea, and cognitive difficulties, all of which can make consistent high-level performance difficult.

Porzingis dealt with similar health-related absences last season while playing for the Boston Celtics.

At that time, multiple tests were conducted in an attempt to identify the cause of his recurring illness, but no clear diagnosis was reached until the offseason.
