Terry Rozier pleaded not guilty on Monday in Brooklyn federal court to federal conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering charges. After his first appearance in the illegal sports gambling case, the 30-year-old was released on a $3 million bond backed by his Florida home.
Rozier and his co-defendant, Deniro Laster, were arrested and indicted in October. Prosecutors allege Rozier told Laster he planned to remove himself early from a March 2023 Charlotte Hornets game, information Laster then sold to sports gamblers.
Laster, described as Rozier’s friend, also pleaded not guilty and was released on $50,000 bond secured by family members. The two men sat separately during their arraignment.
The indictment claims Laster passed Rozier’s tip to two gamblers who used it to place bets and shared it with others in a betting syndicate. Both defendants were scheduled for another court session Monday afternoon with additional co-defendants.
Rozier has been on unpaid leave from Miami since October, with his $26.6 million salary placed in escrow. The NBPA has filed a grievance over his status, and the Heat remain uncertain whether they’re permitted to trade him this season.
His expiring contract could provide meaningful flexibility if league rules allow him to be moved.
