Rich Paul told Game Over with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul that he does not view the Los Angeles Lakers as a championship-caliber team in their current form.

“I, personally, don’t think the Lakers are good enough to be contenders right now. Not right now,” Paul said, via Yahoo Sports. He emphasized that while the Lakers are winning now, the current construction does not project to a championship contender. “I don’t think they have enough to get to the Western Conference Final. I don’t think they really have enough to contend from that perspective right now,” the influential agent said.

The Lakers’ strong record masks concerns about roster depth and health. Luka Doncic leads the team with 35.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game over 17 contests. Austin Reaves follows with 28.4 points and 6.7 assists in 20 games. LeBron James, who has missed several games due to a sciatica issue, averages 16.1 points and 7.6 assists across seven appearances.

Other contributors include Deandre Ayton, who adds 15.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, and Rui Hachimura, averaging 14.0 points over 22 games. Despite these individual performances, Paul argued the roster lacks the balance necessary to reach the Western Conference Finals.

Paul’s assessment suggests that even with James back in the lineup, the Lakers may struggle against deeper, more versatile Western Conference teams.

Marcus Smart averages 9.3 points and 2.9 assists, while Jake LaRavia contributes 8.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest. Injuries and a short rotation could limit LA’s postseason ceiling.
