The Miami Heat dropped their third straight game with a 127-111 loss to the Kings on Saturday, and Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald notes that their depleted roster finally seemed to catch up with them.
Missing Tyler Herro, Davion Mitchell, and Pelle Larsson proved difficult to withstand, leaving the team without several key contributors.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged the overall flat performance, saying, “We didn’t have a lot of juice on either end of the floor,” a reflection of how the injuries and limited depth affected their energy and execution.
Chiang also points out that the constant absences have led Miami to use its 10th different starting lineup in just 24 games, highlighting the instability the coaching staff has been managing.
Another storyline from the night was Spoelstra’s decision to move away from Kel’el Ware in the second half. Instead, he opened the third quarter with Jaime Jaquez Jr., hoping to spark the group.
As Spoelstra explained, “Just looking for some juice, looking for something to kick-start just some energy. It didn’t really work out that way. But I don’t know necessarily what would have. It wasn’t an indictment on Kel’el.”
