The Houston Rockets are set to add Tyler Smith to their roster on a two-way contract, sources confirmed via NBA insider Jake Fischer. To make room, the team will waive Kevon Harris, signaling a roster adjustment aimed at bolstering depth on both ends of the floor.
Smith, 21, brings professional experience from the NBA, G League, and Overtime Elite. He appeared in 23 games for the Milwaukee Bucks last season, averaging 2.9 points and 1.1 rebounds, and has shown versatility in the G League with the Capital City Go-Go and Osceola Magic.
During the current 2025-26 G League campaign with the Capital City Go-Go, Smith has posted 10.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game over eight appearances, displaying solid defensive instincts and floor spacing ability. His scoring efficiency includes 37.8% from the field and 84.6% from the free-throw line.
The Rockets (13-5) currently feature a core led by Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith Jr. Durant is averaging 25.1 points per game, while Sengun contributes 22.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. Amen Thompson has added 17.1 points and 5.2 assists, supporting the team’s fast-paced offensive schemes.
Tyler Smith’s addition provides Houston with another guard capable of contributing in transition and on defensive rotations, fitting the team’s focus on depth. Kevon Harris, who has seen limited playing time this season, will be waived to accommodate the move.
Smith’s professional path is unconventional; he bypassed college basketball to play in Overtime Elite from 2021 to 2023, where he averaged 15.7 points and eight rebounds in his second season and earned second-team All-OTE honors. He later joined NBA G League Ignite before being drafted 33rd overall by Milwaukee in 2024.
