Seth Curry shared his thoughts on a memorable Warriors debut after Golden State fell 124-112 to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday at Chase Center. The guard scored 14 points in his first game with the team following a warm ovation from fans.
“It felt good,” Curry said. “I’ve been waiting to get on this floor for a while now and fans showed me a lot of love. When I stepped on the floor, it felt good to get out there, make my first shot, kind of ease the pressure a little bit and then just from there I’m just playing basketball.”
Curry acknowledged the challenge of returning to live NBA action after several months away. “It felt normal. Felt natural. I hadn’t played in probably seven, eight months, but once we got up and down a couple times, it was basketball and nothing new,” he explained.
Curry highlighted the performance of two-way player Pat Spencer, noting their immediate chemistry. “He’s a basketball player. You throw him out there, he looks different when he touches the floor. We had a nice little flow driving, kicking, being aggressive. It’s good to see him get extended minutes and play good basketball.”
Discussing the Warriors’ mid-game run, Curry emphasized team pace and shared decision-making. “Everybody was a weapon. The ball was moving fast, and in the half-court, we were driving and swinging. JK was able to point out matchups, I was able to screen and slip for him, and everyone attacking the gap created good opportunities.”
Curry also sees room for growth as the team develops chemistry. “We’re just getting used to playing with each other. High IQ guys like Draymond, GP, even Pat, know where to give me the ball and when to be aggressive. I feel like we’ll get better over the next couple games playing as a unit.”
Reflecting on how his Warriors debut compared to previous experiences, Curry praised the energy of the Chase Center crowd and the challenge of facing the defending champions. “It’s tough coming into my first game playing against the defending champs who know what they’re doing every night, but I feel like a basketball player. I can figure out what the team needs and give them what they want.”
Curry admitted there were defensive lapses due to unfamiliarity with Golden State’s schemes. “I made a couple mistakes defensively just because I didn’t know the coverages and was in the wrong spot a couple times, but I’m going to get better at that. The main thing is everybody contributed tonight, which is good.”
Despite the loss, Curry expressed optimism about the team’s trajectory. He emphasized his goal of contributing effectively while the Warriors adjust to the absence of stars Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler.
