Anthony Edwards scored 32 points to become Minnesota’s all-time leader in games with 30 or more points, leading the Timberwolves to a 125-112 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday at Target Center.
Julius Randle contributed 22 points, 12 assists and six rebounds, while Donte DiVincenzo added 18 points and Naz Reid chipped in 15 for Minnesota. The Timberwolves improved to 12-8, going 2-0 at home this weekend after a three-game road skid.
San Antonio, playing without Victor Wembanyama due to a left calf strain, was paced by De’Aaron Fox’s 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson scored 22 each, but the Spurs fell to 5-2 without their star.
The game was close entering the fourth quarter, with San Antonio holding a 93-89 lead. Minnesota seized control early in the final period, outscoring the Spurs 36-19 behind back-to-back 3-pointers from DiVincenzo and Reid.
Edwards had a rough start with five first-quarter turnovers and six in the first half, along with his third technical foul in four games. He settled down in the second half, shooting 13-of-18 overall and 4-of-6 from three to reach 102 career 30-point games, surpassing Karl-Anthony Towns.
Reid’s timely 3s and Randle’s playmaking fueled the Timberwolves’ decisive fourth-quarter surge. Minnesota led by double digits for most of the final seven minutes, with Edwards and Randle handling key possessions.
Fox kept the Spurs competitive early, scoring 19 points in the first half, but San Antonio struggled to contain Minnesota’s offense in the stretch. Their 16-for-33 three-point shooting limited their ability to cut the deficit consistently.
The Timberwolves outrebounded the Spurs 36-33, with Randle and Reid combining for 11 boards. Minnesota also benefited from efficient free-throw shooting, going 10-for-13 in the fourth quarter.
This win gives the Timberwolves momentum heading into a road matchup against New Orleans on Tuesday, while San Antonio returns home to host Memphis.
