According to the people Tim Bontemps spoke with, there’s a strong sense that if Paul George can stay healthy, his skill set still meshes naturally with Philadelphia’s backcourt.

Even though he’s no longer the explosive, downhill threat he once was, evaluators believe he can remain highly effective in a more specialized role.

An Eastern Conference scout explained the thinking, saying, “He can be a floor-spacing [power forward]. Better to not have him handling the ball as much anymore. You can run some pick-and-rolls with him as the screener to take advantage of his shooting and ability to attack mismatches. Will he accept that role? I’ll be curious to see.”

George has played 16 seasons for 4 teams, including the Pacers and Clippers. He has averaged 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 912 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in nine All-Star games and has won one Most Improved Player award.
