Oklahoma City Thunder dominates the strong Minnesota Timberwolves, 113-105, on Wednesday in an NBA Cup West Group A match.
Aside from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who led the Thunder to secure their 18-1 record, a huge part of the credit goes to Chet Holmgren.
Meanwhile, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault commended Holmgren’s crucial contributions after hitting a dagger three-pointer and two huge rebounds.
“I give Chet a lot of credit. He didn’t have it going for most of the game, and he obviously made that huge shot. That was the shot of the game, and then he had two massive rebounds,” Daigneault said.
“Chet was huge, I think mentally staying in the game when he wasn’t really going before and being locked in hit big shots made big plays. He was big for us tonight,” Isaiah Hartenstein added.
Holmgren was known for his size and talent, but not for his clutch mechanics for sealing the game, since they already have their reigning MVP.
“Coach trusted me to be out there to close the game, so I just did what I could to help us get the win,” Holmgren said.
The 7-foot-1 wing dropped some wise words regarding fear of failure after hitting the clutch three-pointer against the Wolves.
“Never be afraid of failure. I feel like if you miss a shot you miss a shot, but you aren’t never gonna shoot a shot again in your career. You are gonna have to shoot a shot at some point so why not now?” he said.
