By the end of Friday’s loss to Miami, the Bulls were reduced to just seven available players, as Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic reports.

Chicago saw forward Matas Buzelis go down with a right ankle sprain, Dalen Terry leave due to a left calf strain, and Kevin Huerter depart early after being ejected.

The series of setbacks contributed to a rough night that ended with a 36-point defeat – a blowout that likely crushed any realistic hope the Bulls had of advancing in NBA Cup play.

Huerter’s ejection came with 8:18 remaining in the third quarter after he was whistled for a foul while contesting a shot by Pelle Larsson.

Following the whistle, Huerter slapped the ball in frustration toward the scorer’s table, but it ricocheted and struck referee Che Flores before reaching its intended spot.

Although the player maintained that the contact wasn’t intentional, a review determined the action met “the standards of an ejection.”

Huerter said afterward, “I didn’t get much explanation. Apologies to that ref, think it was Che. Wasn’t malicious, wasn’t intended to be aggressive toward her. I don’t know the rule, so I guess now I’m aware.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game against Washington, Lorenzi notes that Buzelis is listed as questionable and Terry as doubtful.

Huerter, dealing with an illness, is also questionable, along with Isaac Okoro (lumbar radiculopathy) and Patrick Williams (wrist sprain).
