Even though both LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets have publicly indicated they want their partnership to continue, the possibility of a future trade is still expected to hover over the franchise.

Around the league, teams are monitoring the situation closely as the 2026 trade deadline approaches, given the combination of Ball’s talent, contract size, and Charlotte’s uncertain direction.

When asked to address the initial report suggesting he might be open to leaving, Ball pushed back and reaffirmed his commitment to the Hornets, saying he loves being in Charlotte and hopes to remain with the organization long term.

However, that hasn’t stopped other teams from getting the sense that Charlotte may be willing to at least hear out offers.

“The Hornets have definitely given other teams the impression they will listen to offers for him,” wrote Jake Fischer during his Friday chat.

On the court, Ball has been highly productive when healthy. Through nine games this season, he’s averaging 21.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 9.6 assists in 31.4 minutes per contest.

Represented by Sam Permut, Ball still has $130 million guaranteed over the next three seasons, a contract that ensures any trade discussion involving him would be significant in scale.
