Cooper Flagg called Friday’s 118-115 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans “a game to be excited about,” after posting a career-high 29 points with seven rebounds and five assists at American Airlines Center.

“We came together as a team down the stretch and just made the winning plays,” Flagg said, highlighting the Mavericks’ resilience in clutch moments.

The 18-year-old guard spoke about facing former high school teammate Derik Queen and fellow rookie Jeremiah Fears. “Derik is incredible…one of my brothers for life, and I’m so proud of him and the way he’s been playing,” Flagg said.

Flagg credited P.J. Washington Jr. and Max Christie for leadership and consistency. “Max has been Mr. Consistent…our leading three-point shooter, just knocking down shots,” Flagg said. “PJ has been a real leader since day one of training camp, helping me understand what’s expected.”

Dallas overcame an early nine-point deficit with a 36-22 surge in the third quarter. Flagg praised the team’s intensity and fan support, saying, “The environment here was amazing…shout out to all the fans.”

Max Christie added 23 points, tying a career high, while Washington contributed 24 points and five 3-pointers. Brandon Williams recorded a career-high 12 assists, helping orchestrate Dallas’ offense efficiently. Naji Marshall sealed the win with a go-ahead 3-pointer with 30.7 seconds left.

New Orleans had multiple opportunities to reclaim the lead in the final seconds but missed three consecutive 3-point attempts, including a last-second shot by Queen. P.J. Washington Jr. grabbed a critical rebound in the final sequence, preserving the Mavericks’ edge.

With the win, Dallas improved to 5-12 overall and 1-2 in NBA Cup play, claiming two victories in its last three home games after a 2-7 start at American Airlines Center. New Orleans fell to 2-14 and 0-3 in the tournament, marking the eighth consecutive loss under interim coach James Borrego.

The Mavericks will host Memphis on Saturday, while the Pelicans return home to face Atlanta.
