Knicks head coach Mike Brown expressed frustration with his team’s mindset in Wednesday’s loss to the Magic, arguing that the players were too occupied with arguing calls instead of taking responsibility for their own play, according to Jared Schwartz of the New York Post.

“The thing that I was most disappointed in was in the first half, everything that happened on the court, we blamed the officials,” Brown said. “And that was disappointing to see because we were the culprits of a lot of stuff that happened out on the floor.”

Brown felt that the team’s energy shifted away from execution and toward officiating, which hurt their focus.

In the following game, the Knicks significantly reduced their on-court complaining, reflecting a renewed commitment to controlling what they can influence.

Karl-Anthony Towns has previously acknowledged that not getting distracted by calls he disagrees with is a personal point of emphasis, noting that staying locked in regardless of whistles is key for both his own performance and the team’s success.
