Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley was taken into custody in Texas on a felony assault charge, according to information obtained by TMZ Sports.

The veteran player, known throughout the league for his toughness and intensity, was arrested on Friday at the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in Richmond, Texas.

Jail records indicate that Beverley is facing a charge of Assault on a Family Member/Household Member Impeding Breath or Circulation, which is categorized as a third-degree felony.

His bail was set at $40,000, and he posted the amount, with expectations that he would be released later in the day.

Beverley – a former second-round pick – became one of the league’s more recognizable defensive-minded guards, suiting up during his NBA career for the Rockets, Clippers, Timberwolves, Lakers, Bulls, 76ers, and most recently the Bucks.

Beyond the NBA, he built an impressive résumé overseas, earning honors such as the UBL Slam Dunk Contest title, the 2011 Russian Cup championship, and the 2012 EuroCup MVP.
