Amen Thompson led the Houston Rockets with 28 points and 10 rebounds as they defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 124-109 on Wednesday night at FedExForum. Alperen Sengun contributed 20 points and 16 rebounds, while both he and Thompson added seven assists.
Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason scored 16 points each as Houston extended their winning streak to five games. The Rockets maintained strong shooting throughout, hitting 47.5% from the field and 43.3% from three-point range.
Memphis struggled early, shooting just 25% in the first quarter, allowing Houston to build a double-digit lead. The Grizzlies improved slightly in the second quarter but were hindered by 10 turnovers that led to 17 Rockets points, giving Houston a 60-51 halftime advantage.
Houston widened the gap with a 24-9 run midway through the third quarter, stretching the lead to 21 points. Memphis only briefly cut the margin to single digits early in the fourth before Houston regained control. Josh Okogie added 11 points for the Rockets during the decisive stretch.
Cam Spencer led Memphis with 19 points, shooting 5-of-9 from three-point range. Ja Morant scored 17 points and dished out eight assists but struggled from the field, making just one of seven three-point attempts. Santi Aldama added 16 points for the home team.
The Grizzlies, under first-year coach Tuomas Iisalo, have now lost four straight games and are dealing with injuries to key players including Zach Edey, Scotty Pippen Jr., and Ty Jerome. Memphis also lost the battle on the boards and in loose-ball situations, which contributed to their early deficit.
Houston will continue their three-game road trip on Friday night in San Antonio. Memphis will host the Dallas Mavericks later the same day.
