Cade Cunningham scored 31 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 114-103 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena.
Jalen Duren posted a double-double with 22 points and 22 rebounds, while Ausar Thompson added 18 points for Detroit, which improved to 6-2 with its fourth consecutive victory.
Detroit’s defense held Utah to 38.4% shooting, continuing its strong start to the season. The Pistons entered the game second in the league in field-goal defense at 42.9%.
The Jazz were paced by former Piston Svi Mykhailiuk, who scored a career-high 28 points. Lauri Markkanen added 25 points, and Jusuf Nurkic grabbed 17 rebounds. Utah has now lost four of five games.
Duren contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds in the first half, but Mykhailiuk’s 18 points and Markkanen’s 12 helped Utah carry a two-point lead into halftime.
The Pistons turned the game in the third quarter as Utah missed nine of its first 10 shots, allowing Detroit to build a nine-point lead, 78-69. The Jazz shot just 18% in the 14-point quarter.
Thompson’s layup put Detroit ahead 94-82 with just over seven minutes remaining, but he injured his left ankle on the play. He returned later in the fourth quarter to help close out the win.
Cunningham’s late scoring ensured the Jazz could not mount a significant comeback, securing the Pistons’ fourth straight victory.
Before the game, the Jazz announced that center Walker Kessler would undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, leaving Utah short-handed in the frontcourt.
Detroit will visit the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, while the Jazz travel to face the Minnesota Timberwolves.
