Pistons hand 76ers first loss of the season

The Detroit Pistons remained unbeaten with a 106-93 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena, handing Philadelphia its first loss of the 2026-27 NBA season. Cade Cunningham scored 26 points, while John Collins recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds as Detroit improved to 3-0 despite playing without injured center Jalen Duren.

Detroit led from start to finish, opening the game with a 15-1 run and taking a 34-22 advantage into the second quarter. The Pistons extended their lead to 21 points in the first half before Philadelphia cut the deficit to 56-44 at halftime.

Cunningham finished with 26 points on 9-of-19 shooting, eight rebounds, eight assists, two steals and two blocks in 33 minutes. Duncan Robinson added 21 points, including five three-pointers, while Daniss Jenkins contributed 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Detroit shot 44% from the field and made 14 of 34 attempts from beyond the arc.

Collins added two blocks to his 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Paul Reed contributed eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks. The Pistons outrebounded Philadelphia 54-37 and held the Sixers to 40% shooting from the field and 26% from three-point range.

Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 29 points on 11-of-24 shooting, adding five rebounds, four assists and three steals. LeBron James finished with 18 points, five assists and two steals in his return after sitting out Saturday’s game against Milwaukee to rest his back. Jaylen Brown scored 16 points but shot just 5-of-20 from the field.

The Sixers entered the game 3-0 after opening the season with three consecutive victories, including a 29-point comeback against Cleveland. However, they could not complete another rally after falling behind by 21 points in the first half.

James helped Philadelphia cut the deficit to 12 by halftime with three consecutive layups during a 9-0 run. The Sixers later pulled within four points in the fourth quarter, but Robinson hit a three-pointer to halt their momentum. Cunningham also answered a third-quarter push with consecutive three-pointers to restore Detroit’s cushion.

Philadelphia played without Joel Embiid, who rested after recording a triple-double against Milwaukee, and VJ Edgecombe, who was sidelined by an abdominal contusion. Detroit was also without Duren, who will miss at least two weeks with a strained right hamstring sustained against Miami on Friday.

The Pistons will visit the New York Knicks on Tuesday, while the 76ers will travel to face the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
