Cade Cunningham scored 19 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Detroit Pistons to a 114-106 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night at FedExForum.
Detroit held a 58-48 halftime lead as Memphis struggled with turnovers and shot just 33% against an active Pistons defense. The Pistons extended the advantage in the third with a 21-4 run, pushing the score to 81-60.
Isaiah Stewart added 26 points and 14 rebounds, while Jalen Duren and Ron Holland II contributed 14 points each. Detroit finished with 58 points in the paint compared to Memphis’ 30.
Memphis cut the lead to 103-100 with 3:09 remaining, but Cunningham scored nine straight points to secure the victory.
Jaren Jackson Jr. led Memphis with 21 points, and Ja Morant recorded 18 points and 10 assists in his return from a one-game suspension. Memphis struggled to find offensive rhythm, particularly in the paint.
Duncan Robinson added 11 points for Detroit, shooting 4-of-10 from the floor with three three-pointers. Ausar Thompson contributed nine points, while Paul Reed did not score in limited minutes off the bench.
Memphis’ Jaylen Wells scored four points on 2-of-14 shooting, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finished with two points. Santi Aldama added 17 off the bench, and Jock Landale scored 13.
Detroit improves to 5-2 and will host Utah on Wednesday. Memphis drops to 3-5 and faces Houston at home the same night.
The Pistons maintained over 50% shooting through the first three quarters and controlled the game with strong interior scoring. Memphis’ turnovers and lack of flow kept them trailing for most of the night.
Detroit’s efficient shooting and ability to capitalize on Memphis’ mistakes proved decisive in maintaining the lead down the stretch.
