The Phoenix Suns held Victor Wembanyama in check on Sunday night, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 130–118 at Mortgage Matchup Center.

Wembanyama, the 21-year-old French phenom, struggled to find his rhythm against Phoenix’s defense, finishing with just nine points on 4-of-14 shooting.

Despite the offensive challenges, he contributed in other areas with nine rebounds, four blocks, two assists, and one steal in 34 minutes. The loss marked San Antonio’s first defeat of the 2025–26 NBA regular season.

“I think we had a great scheme defensively. They were expecting everything that we did, so that makes everything hard for us,” Wembanyama said afterward. “I think we need to be more into it in the future.”

The young center, however, praised his team’s mentality despite the setback.

“The message is nothing too crazy or not expected, but I think what I take away from this, like the message of the coach and our team all through the game, is that through adversity we still respond,” he explained. “Nobody gave up, nobody put their head down.”

The Spurs were without Polish forward Jeremy Sochan, who missed the game with a left wrist sprain.
