The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired an asset to maintain their winning momentum during the regular season.

Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with 37 points to dethrone the Atlanta Hawks, 117-109, and gave half of the credit to the newcomer Lonzo Ball for being the floor general in the absence of Darius Garland.

When discussing Lonzo, it was always about being a team-first player, where he also emphasized that coming to Cleveland this season was to help obtain a championship.

For Mitchell, it was different to have this type of point guard who makes the game easier for the team, as he noted after playing with Ricky Rubio and Mike Conley.

“I’ve been blessed to play with Ricky Rubio and Mike Conley but the stuff Lonzo does is like he’s back in Chino Hills. What he does in practice is crazier than what I’ve seen. He makes the game a lot easier for everybody,” Mitchell said.

“That’s just part of the building. When you have a guy that knows the game, his IQ level, his passing ability is amazing. It makes everybody’s life a hell of a lot easier,” he added.

The Cavaliers acquired the 6-foot-5 point guard in exchange for Isaac Okoro this offseason, which turned out to be good timing that has benefited them in the current early season, as Garland was injured during the last playoffs.

However, Ball just returned to the league after missing two full seasons, during which he played 35 games last season with the Chicago Bulls.

He still has to find his rhythm with his new teammates as he is averaging 5.4 points, 5.8 assists, and four rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.
