Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves have been leading the Lakers this early season.
The Los Angeles Lakers now have a 5-2 win-loss record after outlasting the Portland Trail Blazers with a score of 130-120.
While LeBron James was still sidelined, the team’s backcourt took charge, such as Doncic, contributing triple-double figures with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Reaves scored 26 points to extend their three-game winning streak.
The former Rookie of the Year commended the entire Lakers team for stepping up when they had the chance to lead, since he felt terrible in tonight’s matchup.
“It’s been great, I think both of us playing great games but not today. I think we both play terrible today. We couldn’t make a shot but you know everybody step up, we share the ball pretty much and that’s how we got a win,” Luka said about his performance and Reaves.
Aside from the fans who observed the chemistry, head coach JJ Redick witnessed how they became connected because of their similar personalities.
“I think it’s in a really healthy place. I think what they realized early in the preseason, I don’t know if it was the first road trip or the second one that we went on, but they both realized that they both enjoy talking trash a lot. And their personalities in that regard are very similar so they can sort of create a little bit of chemistry with each other just by being their natural selves,” JJ Redick discussed about Doncic and Reaves.
Doncic is 26, while Reaves is 27, as these two stars were actually considered the future of the Lakers.
There are plenty of rooms to experience, improvements to be made, and opportunities to secure a championship, especially when the time comes for James to retire.
With their unspoken chemistry, it seems like they won the blockbuster trade since Anthony Davis is sidelined again for the Dallas Mavericks due to injury.
