Cooper Flagg shared his thoughts on adapting to the NBA following the Dallas Mavericks’ 122-110 loss to the Detroit Pistons in Mexico City. The rookie described the experience as “incredible,” highlighting the energetic atmosphere and the support from fans.

Flagg acknowledged that scoring has been a challenge early in his career, but he emphasized his focus on improving other aspects of his game. “I’m going to just keep trusting the work,” he said. “There’s nothing to be worried about. Just got to keep getting better looks, keep being aggressive, and trust all the work.”

The 18-year-old guard also reflected on the team’s offensive approach during the game. He credited Dallas’ early success to careful shot selection and attacking mismatches. “We were patient. We found our sprays, our kickouts, our driving kicks, and we were getting good looks,” Flagg said.

Flagg noted Detroit’s physical play in the paint, calling it a challenge for the Mavericks. “They’re a really physical, hardworking team,” he said. “We could have done a better job holding up the hole and covering the rim.”

He also expressed gratitude to fans in both Mexico and Dallas. “I’m grateful for all the support that we’ve had. It was incredible to come out here and have this experience,” Flagg said.

Regarding his unique journey from Maine to the NBA, Flagg encouraged aspiring players to work hard regardless of their hometown. “It doesn’t really matter where you’re from. It just matters if you’re going to work hard, dedicate yourself to the right things, and make sacrifices,” he explained.

Flagg discussed the physical challenge of playing at high altitude in Mexico City. “It was tough. I was breathing really hard through most of the game, but everyone was dealing with it,” he said.

He also credited veteran teammates for his early development in the league. “I’ve learned a ton from those guys. On the court, off the court, a lot about their routines and the way they take care of their bodies,” Flagg said.

In his season-high 16 points against Detroit, Flagg also contributed eight rebounds and four assists. Despite shooting 3-of-14 from the field, he remained confident in his ongoing adjustment to the NBA.
