Trae Young is close to having his worst injury.
The Atlanta Hawks star has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, per ESPN’s Shams Charania on X.
When Young accidentally fell backward into his teammate Mouhamed Gueye, it looked a tragic injury that he might face, but the results on the MRI were encouraging, at least as expected to be out just for months.
The floor general played for just seven minutes after the accident occurred during Wednesday’s clash against the Brooklyn Nets, which ended in a 117-112 win, contributing six points, one rebound, and one assist before leaving the game in the first quarter.
Although there is no such thing as a good injury, the positive aspect is that it was not a season-ending injury that could affect the team’s performance this season, as they have the chance to dominate the Eastern Conference after a busy offseason.
Aside from the injury itself, it occurred in the early season, when the Hawks could take their time, especially in developing their new players, such as Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Luke Kennard.
Jalen Johnson, one of the team’s leaders, averaged 20.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and five assists discussed about Young’s situation and impact for the team.
“It’s going to take time,” Johnson told ESPN. “But we’re all disciplined. Everybody works hard. Everybody’s willing to listen. We take our film sessions very seriously. So I think if we just continue to grow after each game and go out there with a winning mindset, everything will take care of itself. Just not putting too much pressure on ourselves and feel like we have to overdo something.”
