Lakers head coach JJ Redick highlighted the team’s composure and execution following Wednesday’s 116-115 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center.
“There was no break in composure. There was no break in competitive spirit. There was no break in belief of whether or not we could win the game,” Redick said.
Redick praised Austin Reaves for his clutch performance, noting his career-high-tying 16 assists and game-winning 12-foot jumper. “That guy is going to show up in the big moments. He’s done that many times in his career,” Redick added. He credited Reaves for reading the defense and creating advantages on the floor despite Minnesota’s late rally.
The coach also emphasized the team’s growth amid a short-handed roster. “From where we were like three weeks ago, with guys missing training camp and modified participants, we’re starting to come together,” Redick said. He noted the Lakers earned the victory through discipline and execution, even when facing a late 14-2 run by the Wolves.
Redick singled out Jake LaRavia for his standout performance, scoring 27 points on 10-for-11 shooting. “Clearly his best game as a Laker. This game now is a reference point for him,” Redick said. He praised LaRavia’s defensive activity and confidence, particularly when guarding Julius Randle.
The Lakers coach described the team’s offensive approach during Reaves’ heroics in the final seconds. “We drew up two plays, one versus zone, one versus man. Austin got the ball and then DA made a great quick decision just to come under that ball screen,” he explained. Reaves’ decision-making ensured the Lakers capitalized on their last opportunities to secure the win.
Redick also reflected on the broader impact of Reaves’ recent stretch of games. “He’s established himself as a leader on the court. That’s what we want. That’s what we need from him,” he said. The win improved the Lakers to 3-2, showing resilience without LeBron James and Luka Doncic.
Los Angeles will look to continue its momentum when the team visits Memphis on Friday, while the Timberwolves aim to rebound at Charlotte on Saturday.
