Tyrese Maxey exploded for 39 points and 10 assists, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 139–134 overtime victory over the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena on Tuesday night.

Philadelphia overcame a 16-point deficit after three quarters while managing Joel Embiid’s minutes, who contributed 25 points in 23:02. Rookie Adem Bona made a decisive impact with five blocks in the fourth quarter and overtime, helping the Sixers rally.

Washington led 72–68 at halftime and extended the advantage to 19 in the third quarter, powered by Alex Sarr’s 31 points. However, the Wizards scored only 16 points in the fourth as Philadelphia’s defense tightened in the clutch.

The game went to overtime after Khris Middleton missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer, leaving the score tied at 126. Philadelphia then produced a 9–0 run, including a Bona dunk with 27.6 seconds remaining that put the 76ers ahead.

Kyshawn George cut the lead to one with a three-pointer, but Maxey’s clutch free throws sealed the win, and Philadelphia intercepted Middleton’s final pass to preserve the unbeaten record.

Eight Wizards players reached double figures by the end of the third quarter, but the team collapsed down the stretch as Philadelphia’s depth and energy proved decisive. Trendon Watford made his season debut for the Sixers after missing the first three games, adding two points in 18:20.

Philadelphia improves to 4–0 while Washington drops to 1–3, highlighting the importance of resilience and bench contributions in the early season.

The 76ers host Boston on Friday, while the Wizards travel to face Oklahoma City on Thursday.
