AS Monaco opened the 2025-26 EuroLeague season with a 3-2 record and grabbed headlines due to reports that the club was working with a record-breaking budget for French basketball.
According to the French League (LNB), Monaco’s budget stands at €38.7 million, with €20.13 million allocated to payroll, which includes both players and coaching staff.
However, club general manager Oleksiy Yefimov clarified that the real numbers are lower than what was officially reported.
“It’s not exactly correct. The figure published by the League represents the maximum amount authorised by the LNB’s Financial Commission for the club to spend, not the real amount we plan to use,” Yefimov told Nice Matin.
“Our actual operating budget is lower, estimated at around €35.9 million.”
He went on to explain why there is a discrepancy between the official league figures and Monaco’s internal budget.
“For example, the LNB numbers include all expenses related to Jordan Loyd’s contract – salary, taxes, accommodation, agency fees – as well as Donatas Motiejunas’ contract,” the GM noted.
Yefimov also pointed out that last season’s operating budget was €33.1 million.
“We forecasted a maximum 10% increase for this year, and so far, we are following that plan precisely.”
