The Detroit Pistons cruised to a 119-98 victory over the Washington Wizards at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday, improving their preseason record to 2-2. Jalen Duren led the team with 20 points, six rebounds, and three blocks.
Detroit opened the game strong, outscoring Washington 29-18 in the first quarter, with Cade Cunningham contributing seven assists and Tobias Harris adding nine points. The Pistons’ defense forced multiple turnovers, allowing them to control the pace from the start.
The Wizards, missing key contributors in the rotation, struggled to keep up. Alex Sarr scored 10 points with six rebounds, while Kyshawn George added 11 of his total 20 points and four assists. Khris Middleton was limited to three points, while CJ McCollum contributed 17 points but could not overcome Detroit’s size advantage.
Detroit maintained its momentum in the second quarter, extending the lead to 57-51 by halftime. Cunningham facilitated efficiently, dishing out 12 assists by the break, while Duren scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. The Pistons shot 53.6% from the field, including 41.7% from three-point range.
In the third quarter, Duren continued his dominance with timely dunks and post moves, finishing the period with 18 points. Harris added a step-back jumper and a layup, helping Detroit open a 26-point margin heading into the final frame. Washington attempted a comeback led by McCollum’s 14 points but could not close the gap.
Detroit’s bench contributed significantly as well, with Paul Reed recording 11 points and five rebounds. Duncan Robinson added 10 points on three three-pointers, while Ausar Thompson chipped in eight points and seven rebounds, ensuring the starters remained fresh.
The Pistons’ defense limited the Wizards to 36.8% shooting from the field and 24.2% from three-point range. Detroit also dominated the boards, pulling down 42 rebounds compared to Washington’s 48, and forced 14 turnovers.
