Luka Doncic is scheduled to make his 2025–26 preseason debut on Tuesday when the Los Angeles Lakers face the Phoenix Suns, sources told ESPN. Lakers coach JJ Redick confirmed Doncic will play in two of the team’s final three preseason games. Marcus Smart will also make his preseason debut.
Doncic, acquired by the Lakers last season, has already averaged 28.2 points, 7.5 assists, and 8.1 rebounds in 28 games after leaving Dallas midseason. His addition marks a major shift for the Lakers, who are adjusting to a new offensive system around the Slovenian star.
The Lakers have gone 1–2 in preseason so far, with a win against Golden State and losses to Phoenix and Golden State earlier in October. Austin Reaves has led scoring in two games, while Deandre Ayton has consistently contributed on the boards.
Doncic’s career averages over eight NBA seasons include 28.6 points, 8.2 assists, and 8.6 rebounds per game, with a 46.8% field goal percentage and 35% from three-point range. His postseason experience includes 55 games, averaging 30.9 points, 7.8 assists, and 9.2 rebounds.
Lakers fans will be watching closely to see how Doncic’s playmaking meshes with the team’s current roster, which also features Deandre Ayton, Rui Hachimura, and rookie Nick Smith Jr. The team hopes his presence will accelerate chemistry ahead of the regular season.
